KOHIMA, 21st JULY: Kohima Main Town has seen a visible change since last few days after the streets of the town were adorned with potted evergreen plants giving a fresh breathe of life and energy along the roadside and footpaths of the town. Donating potted flower plants started with the initiative of two local residents of Kohima town. Following their footsteps, many individuals have come forward in contributing fresh potted plants to the Kohima Municipal Council. Till now more than 20 individuals have donated plants. This citizen’s initiative is being tagged as the Green Line Campaign. Approximately 80 potted plants have been received so far adding to the Green Line initiative. Kohima Municipal Council Administrator, Kovi Meyase has credited the citizens for this initiative. When asked on the maintenance of the plants, Meyase said community participation is a call here and expressed hope that some organisation, individuals and wards will come forward voluntarily to adopt certain stretches of the area. Despite the pandemic, Kohima is witnessing the rare sight of doting plants in the streets with citizens solely taking the initiative. This humanitarian act exemplifies others to inculcate so that the Green Line campaign reaches the other parts of the districts as well.
