World day against Trafficking in Persons is being observed today

 KOHIMA, 30th JULY: The world day against trafficking in persons is observed on July 30 every year in order to raise awareness about the condition of victims of human trafficking and to promote and protect their rights. The theme of this year's World Day against Trafficking focuses on first responders to human trafficking. On the occasion, the State Resource Centre for Women, SRCW, Nagaland, Mahila Shakti Kendra and the 181 Women Helpline Nagaland have initiated a digital campaign to mark the day and to highlight the issue of Human Trafficking in the state. Commissioner & Secretary Social Welfare, Department while launching the digital campaign, drew attention to the current economic downturn due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which has adversely affected the livelihood of many. She pointed out that in such a situation, those struggling economically become more vulnerable when prospects in the pretext of free or quality education and livelihood opportunities are presented to them. She therefore called upon all to be aware of the current realities in the state and also to be on alert in order to prevent such unwanted situations. A short video on Human Trafficking in Nagaland, produced by the SRCW “Break the Chain – Stop Human Trafficking,” was also released. Meanwhile, the District Administrations and the District Level Centres for Women and One Stop Centres are carrying out various activities in the 11 districts and reaching out to the masses, creating awareness through various activities such as – art, poster contest, photo caption competition, and others.
